What really defines quality? Materials used? Product strength? Or quality of the performance?
For me it’s a bit of all 3 and really and truthfully the 420X fits right into the market at the expected level. The headband is nice but not amazing, it’s not screaming brand defining like the Elite 800X does. The material used for the headband cushion is the leather look with perforations in it and whilst on first impressions looks nice the overall quality difference is realised when you place the cups on your ears. Slightly smaller than the predecessors (500X and 800X) and compared to the beautiful quality of them, this sits just below but still has appeal. For the main headset shape and quality it’s much as we have come to expect from Turtle Beach products, it feels solid and sturdy yet at only 258g is quite possibly one of if not the lightest fully wireless headsets on the market today. By comparison the recently released premium headset the 800X weighs in at a huge 379g so you can imagine how comfortable they are to wear for long periods.
Buttons and volume wheel’s are just your usual quality, nothing special or hidden, it’s all crammed into one earpiece allowing one hand always on the controller.
The USB stick simply plugs into the Xbox one and you’re away, already paired out of the box there are no wires or annoying setup processes here. Quite simply a joy to start using

“the must have headset this year when you are on a budget”
Value for money:
This is now the cheapest fully wireless headset for the xbox one. The Stealth 420 X initial retail price of around £149 offers great features for its money, and slots right into the market between the 7.1 sound of the 500x and the partially wired X07 Pro’s that is comparable in its stereo sound.
As a first fully wireless headset with Stereo sound it jumps out as the must have headset this year when you are on a budget.
With only stereo sound you won’t be getting loads of pre set sounds like in the 500X or 800X however vocal, bass boost, bass boost with vocal and natural. are available and they do make some level of difference. If you’re already lucky enough to be in possession of the 500X or the amazing 800X then you can move on, this headset wont be challenging for the top spot. However if your on your first Xbox One headset or your looking for a good value product to introduce you into the headset market this is the one.
The weight as already mentioned is so light you barely know it’s there and had it not been for the ear cup material being a little too small (for my liking anyway) then it would have been like wearing air.
The sound itself is everything though and again as I have already alluded to the stereo sound is a great starting point for your gaming needs. Having a few sound modes is nice as you can tailor them to your game style and personal preference is more bass or more vocal if you’re listening out for footsteps.
The controls all being on 1 ear do cause a little annoyance when mid game all in a panic as you might be about to get shot or passed on the track and you need to adjust the volume level or the voice and you turn the wrong one down/up. They are so close together it does create a quick awareness of the wheels.
but that aside this is a great headset, good volume levels, nice pre sets and comfortable for long gaming sessions and nice on the eye.
